I am about to default on an MCA because I cannot pay rent and the daily withdrawals. What happens next?

I am a few days away from missing payments on my merchant cash advance. The business is behind on rent, and if I keep letting the MCA pull from the account there may not be a business left to save. I keep reading horror stories about lawsuits, UCC liens, and frozen accounts. What should I expect if I default, and what should I do before the first missed payment?

Default usually starts with the contract, not with a court. Missing payments, blocking ACH withdrawals, changing bank accounts, changing processors, or taking new funding can all be default triggers depending on the agreement. Once default is triggered, the funder may send notices, accelerate the balance, pressure you for payment, enforce UCC rights, contact processors, sue, or pursue a personal guarantee. Before the first missed payment, gather the agreement, payment history, UCC filing, guarantee, and all communications. If you are close to default, this is the moment to speak with an MCA defense attorney or experienced business-debt advisor instead of waiting for the funder to control the timeline.
